About Our Town

Victoria is a city of about 300,000 people, situated at the southern tip of Vancouver Island. Victoria is the capital of the province of British Columbia, and the government is a  source of employment for many citizens of our city.

About Our School

Victoria High School is located at 1260 Grant Street, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada (V8T 1C2) Our phone number is (250) 388-5456 . Mechanics local is 609. Fax is (250) 388-6702

Vic High is Canada's oldest public high school west of the great lakes. On August 7th, 1876 it opened to a class of sixty boys and girls. As it grew, in 1882, and 1902, it occupied handsome new brick buildings, later known as Boys' and Girls' Central School.  On May 1, 1914, Victoria High school moved northward to its fourth building, the present school at Grant and Camosun. Fairey Technical-Vocational Unit opened in 1949, and the main building was enlarged in 1956. Victoria High School has been featured in several movies and was featured prominently in "Scary Movie".

Even since before the Fairey Technical School opened in 1949, Vic High was the place to go if you were looking forward to a career in the trades, or in engineering. It's still that way today. The "Fairey Tech." building itself is larger than all but one elementary school in the district. At one time there were 18 shop teachers teaching in the building; with one full time substitute teacher and a full time shop maintenance man. Those days are gone, but the building is still contains the best shops in the district, and possibly, the province. We have equipment in the Fairey Tech building only dreamed about by most shop teachers. Fairey Tech grads are working in technical areas all over the world using skills they first learned during their time here.

Chain of Command

Schools in Victoria operate under the supervision of the board of school trustees, elected every two years by the voters of the district of Victoria.

The current principal at Vic High, is Mr. Stephen Bennett. Vice principals are Mrs. Maureen Munro, and Mr. Gautem Khosla

Thank you to our administration for all your support over the years.

Current Technical Education Staff

Teaching Assistant:

Mr. Brian Jackson. Autobody teaching assistant. Brian retired from the dockyard a few years ago, and now helps us out in the auto body shop. He was the starter for the International Conference of Sports Car races at Western Speedway in Victoria back in the days when the road course was still operating. Brian also assists his son to run the West Arm Grill on Shawnigan Lake. He has an interest in M.G. sports cars, but we'll forgive him for that.

Thanks Brian for all the help you give us throughout the year. Things would be a lot more difficult without you. We appreciate you, and so do the students.

Mr. Kevin Blecic. Autobody and Metalwork;  Mr. Blecic started teaching at Vic High a few  years ago, but moved to Colquitz Jr. during 2003-2004, to help out there. He returned as Autobody instructor in September 2004.
